i see a lot of apps on the GW site, which is what. simular to jaws scripts?
i heard the GW Connect works great with skype, and you do not need to be useing GW micro to make it work.
Are there other such apps that are not GW dependent?
I'm just curious to try things out. John
GW Connect doesn't work in conjunction with Skype, it is essentially a replacement for Skype. You have to have a Skype account, but if you do, you can run GW Connect and not the Skype program. It's great.
It works for anyone as well.
okay are there other apps like this ?
hmm. maybe i'm not being clear.
do certain GW apps only work with GW Micro and others are not spasific (it doesn't matter what Screene reader you use?)
No. Reason, is they are trying not to be reader bound like Jaws is.
hmm. i should check them out then.
Enjoy.
How many do they have anyway?
gobs but i dont see how this works.
if i download an app, it downloads an .wepm file. you said you dont need to have window eyes to use any apps, right?
so what do i do? save it and run it?
Thanks to Eric, i get it now. Just GWConnect is not GW spasific. That was my question all along. Thanks all.
Sorry that was what I meant. Lol
its all good Wayne
well i got the GW Connect on here.
I had to turn down the sounds by manually editing the sound files, by 14DB. that could just be my hearing which sucks, and that too.
its cool to have multiple ways to access the same thing.
not sure if i'll always use it, but we'll see.
Thanks all for your help!
I tried gw connect for a bit, didn't like it at all! it was just bothersome. didn't like it as much as the real skype client. it missed things, and stuff, couldn't use it as well, so I just uninstalled it. I prefer the real skype with skype scrips and with skype talking.
It is actually louder than Skype, so adjust for anyone better? I've not tried it, just read about it. I guess I just like Skype as is as well.
Also on a netbook that is just a single core "1.66" it runs light allow my netbook to not get bogged down.
what do you mean by adjust for anyone better, Wayne?
They take in to account all people that might need the product. It is a fact that many blind people are also hearing impaired, so if you are making a product for the bglind, you need to think about this as well. If they have done this along with Brille support for the program they have done well.
They do need somewhat better braille support IMO, and it'd be nice to have the alt+1 thru alt+10 to review the convo.
i turned the sounds down manually majorly so, though. if I hadn't i wouldn't have been able to hear Jaws above the sounders that they use.
Get 2 sound cards. Run Jaws on one and the rest on the other. You are using XP, so that is best. In 7 you can control the volume on one card, but 2 is still easier.
All you need is a little USB job, under 20. A T guys and Office Depot offer them. That way you can hear you Jaws over whatever.
I do have 2 cards, one for my music, and the other for windows Sounds.
I believe the GW card I hav set to come out of the same one with mucic (not sure if i changed it)
I have my Jaws alone, and everything else on the computers main card. This allows me to work these websites that load with music, videos online, and such. Navigation is easy than.
On my laptop I carry one in the bag, but just use Windows 7 controls to fix this if needed.
YOU CANNOT MAKE IE come out of another Sound card from what I know which would be helpeful.
Can anyone comment on the ads in gwConnect? When an add is played, can you still here the other person talking? Do they hear the ad as well? Also, does it support video? I'm all for making mainstream apps work, but Skype is such a pain to use and it brings most of my systems to a crawl, so I'm thinking this might be something worth looking into.
Cheers,
Ben.
It does not support vidio.
if someone would skype with me i could find out.
i've only used it for text chatting and for makeing calls to the NFB newsline
it does not support video yet, they are working on it. Also if your Using JFW, you can just press the shutt-up key to stop the advertisments beeing read to you.
